Ganesha the most popular god among Hindus, he is lovingly called as Gannu, Gumpi, Pillayar appa(Tamil), Gajananda and so on. People from all over India celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with great enthusiasm.
Why is Ganesh Chathurthi Celebrated?
It is celebrated to mark his arrival to earth from Kailash Parvat with his mother Goddess Parvati, we bring idols of Ganesh Ji to their home , We fast, do pooja and offer Prasad to dear and near ones. Maharashtra, especially Mumbai is very popular in celebrating Ganesh Chathurthi for 10 days, they lovingly call him Bappa “ Ganpathi Bappa Morya” slogan will bring goosebumps to anyone.
Vinayaga Chathurti is celebrated in the most natural and ergonomic way in Tamil Nadu because idols will be made with mud , Vinayaga will be garlanded with Erugam poo (Purple crown flower), This plant will be available in almost all households, The beautiful purple colour flower will add more beauty to the Vinayagar.
The prasad will be simple Kozhukattai ( Modak), Sundal (Cooked legumes) and fruits. They will bring the Ganesh Ji on the festival day and do 3 days pooja, on the 3rd day they will immerse the idol into the well. With well being very rare because of high rise buildings these days , people immerse the idol in the bucket full of water. Is this not a cool way to celebrate the festival without damaging mother earth?
